“Read, read, read. Read everything — trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it.
Then write. If it’s good, you’ll find out. If it’s not, throw it out of the window.”

“I still love the book-ness of books, the smell of books: I am a book fetishist—books to me are the coolest and sexiest and most wonderful things there are.” —Neil Gaiman (Locus, February 2005)

“We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel… is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.” —Ursula K. Le Guin (via thegirlandherbooks)

What are you guys reading right now?

North and South by Elisaeth Gaskell currently. Although I don’t know about Erin or Alestier but if I know them (and I do) they’ve no doubt have something.

I've heard alot about game of thrones books but I'm hesitant, should I read them or not?

It depends upon what you like. I find they read very much like a traditional fantasy novel, lots of exposition, switching of character perspective, tendency towrds description and a more languid pace throughout (aside of course from the battle scenes) Be warned it does have a great deal sex and violence that is quite descriptive so if you’re uncomfortable with those things I’d steer clear. If you’re from the HBO show be warned the pace is very different and much of it is covered in the show itself so you may be simply reiterating what you know from the show and that can cause the reading process to be bit slower and less engaging.

Reading in public:

triangulartimmy:

the absolute worst part about it is the constant struggle to suppress the urge to giggle in fiendish glee.
